Edna Wright was the lead singer of the R&B group Honey Cone, known for their 1971 hit “Want Ads.” She was the sister of popular singer Darlene Love.
Wright began her career singing back-up for Ray Charles and the Righteous Brothers. She released a single in the 1960s under the stage name Sandy Wynns. Wright formed the R&B girl group Honey Cone in 1969 with Carolyn Willis and Shelly Clark. The group hit No. 1 with the 1971 funk/R&B song “Want Ads,” knocking the Rolling Stones’ “Brown Sugar” from the top spot. Wright was the younger sister of popular singer Darlene Love.
