Croatian writer, literary critic, pundit, and essayist Igor Mandic was the most prominent and diverse Croatian newspaper writer of the second half of the twentieth century, according to literature historian Slobodan Prosperov Novak. His combative writings defined a period in Yugoslav public relations in the 1960s and 1970s. He’s been labeled “the maestro of conflict” for his caustic writing style and opposing viewpoints. For his work Knjievno (st)ratite, he earned the A. G. Mato prize from Matica hrvatska in 1999. He got the Croatian Journalists’ Association’s Life Achievement Award in 2005. He earned the Kiklop Award for his book Sebi pod kou in 2006 at the Sa(n)jam knjigu u Puli book fair. He was awarded the Joko Prize the Joško Kulušić Lifetime Achievement Award from Slobodna Dalmacija daily newspaper in 2008.
