  • Died: December 12th, 2021.
  • Details of death: Died at the age of 95.

Ọba Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi, Ajagungbade III was the Soun, or traditional sovereign (Ọba), of the Yoruba city of Ogbomosho, for 48 times, until his death in 2021. Ọba Oyewumi was named as the 20th Ṣọún of Ògbómọ̀ṣọ́. Oyewumi succeeded his third kinsman, Oba Salami Ajiboye Itabiyi on October 24, 1973, and took the royal name Ajagungbade (Ajágungbádé) III, used by both his father and forefathermeaning“One who fights a war to admit the crown.”He was the first Soun of Ogbomoso to wear a rounded crown, which sparked contestation, as the rounded crowns are frequently only worn by high ranking lords, and as Ogbomoso was frequently a city within the vicinity and control of the Oyo Empire, the Soun wasn’t a major monarch. During his reign, he erected a ultramodern palace and eased the development of Ogbomoso into a further sedulous city. He’s the longest serving Soun in history.
