Joanne Shenandoah was an American Native American singer, composer, and acoustic guitarist. She was a member of the Wolf clan of the Oneida Indian Nation in New York. The Oneida are part of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois Confederacy) (Iroquois Confederacy). Her music is a fusion of classic tunes and melodies with a blend of instrumentation.
Shenandoah has released over 15 albums and received a slew of accolades, including an Honorary Doctorate of Music from Syracuse University in 2002. She won a Grammy for her contribution to the album Sacred Ground: A Tribute to Mother Earth (2005), which featured songs by a variety of artists.
