Nguyễn Hữu Việt was a Vietnamese swimmer who specialized in breaststroke events. At the Southeast Asian Games (2003–2009), he won five medals (three golds, one silver, and one bronze) and set multiple records in both the 100 and 200 m breaststroke. He earned a FINA wild card entry by beating his personal best of 1:03.73 from his gold medal victory at the 2007 Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand. In heat two, Nguyen faced five other swimmers, including fellow two-time Olympian Sergiu Postica of Moldova. In 1:06.36, he finished fourth, 0.14 of a second behind Lebanon’s Wael Koubrousli. Nguyen did not advance to the semifinals after finishing 58th overall on the first night of preliminaries.
